Hi there! My name is Andreu and I am an Account Manager for Global Voices UK! Here’s my story:
Life before Global Voices
I was born and bred in Barcelona, Spain, where I attended primary and secondary school until I was 18. I then moved to Scotland’s beautiful capital, Edinburgh, to pursue my undergraduate degree in International Business Management with Chinese. Having recently graduated with a First-Class Honours degree, I have also briefly worked as an Account Manager for a short-term rentals firm in Edinburgh.
How it all Began
Upon graduating, I started actively looking for a sales position within an industry of particular interest to me. I came across Global Voices’ job advert on LinkedIn while on holiday in Spain, and given my long-standing interest in languages and being fluent in 5 of them, it seemed like it was the ideal fit. Having just submitted my CV, I received a call from GV shortly after and had a video-interview 2 days later. 20 minutes after the interview, I got the job!
Since Joining
Since joining, I have been working closely with the various teams across the company (i.e Project Analysts, Project Managers, Linguists, Operations and so forth) to better familiarise myself with the incredible work we do as a company. What is most exciting about this role is that no two days are the same! From replying to translation/interpretation enquiries to dinging the ‘big bell’ when a sale comes in, through following up and negotiating quotes with clients from a range of different industries and countries, this role allows you to maximise your interpersonal skills whilst working within a highly international and friendly team!
Who Should Apply
If you enjoy having daily contact with customers, have a keen interest in languages and enjoy working within a fast-paced yet diverse environment, I would strongly urge you to apply for this job! I look forward to working with your international and friendly team!
Hi there! My name is Silvia and I am a Project Manager for Global Voices UK! Here’s my story:
Life Before Global Voices
Always fascinated by languages and foreign cultures from a young age, I pursued my academic career in Interpreting and Translation in Padua, Italy, where I graduated as a linguist for English/German into Italian. During these years, I learnt about the world of LSPs and project management as a possible career path instead of freelance interpreter/translator, one that could better fit my analytical but outgoing personality.
How it all Began
I have always known that I wanted to challenge myself with a working experience abroad. While I was completing my third year at university, our career advisor approached students with the possibility of carrying out an internship in a foreign country of our choice, within the Erasmus + programme. At that time, Global Voices was partnering with my university and that seemed like the perfect opportunity for me! I sent my CV and cover letter to the company and, shortly after, I have been advised that I had been accepted to start an internship just a few weeks later.
Since Joining
I initially started as a translation project manager assistant, but then I quickly transitioned into interpretation, where I had the chance to actually start my own department: after working on my own the first couple of years, as the company grew I had the fantastic opportunity to shape my own team of project managers, servicing clients all around the world. After almost 6 years, I am a senior project manager and I supervise a team of 9 employees, providing interpreters for a wide array of jobs across the world, from medical appointments to multi-lingual high-level conferences.
We normally call our team the “emergency department”, due to the very urgent requirements for interpreters we get on a daily basis, but we all enjoy the thrill we get from the pressure, as well as the customer satisfaction after we have exceeded their expectations and managed to pull off projects that at first looked impossible!
Who Should Apply
Being a dynamic, fast-paced, multicultural workplace, Global Voices is ideal for anyone looking for a new challenge every day, a non-stop learning experience for both young graduates and experienced professionals. Whether you work in account management, project management or any other departments within the company, you will always feel included and part of the team or, as we like to call it, the GV family!
